The Inspiration behind the lens

let's pull back the curtain

I grew up with a very romantic idea of love. The kind of story where the guy comes to rescue the princess, they fall completely in love, and somehow everything becomes perfect from there. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve obviously learned that real love doesn’t quite work that way—and honestly, I think the real version is much more beautiful. It’s not perfection. It’s choosing each other, knowing each other deeply, growing together, laughing at the things no one else understands, and feeling like you have someone beside you through all of it.

I think that early romanticism is still a little bit of what draws me to photographing couples. I love the beauty and magic of those classic images, but what I really want to capture underneath them is something real: the way you look at each other when you forget anyone else is there, the little moments of familiarity, the comfort, the excitement, and the connection that makes your relationship yours. I want your photographs to bring you back to how it felt to be together—not just what you looked like.

And, if I'm being completely honest, part of my fascination with that connection comes from my own life. I've spent much of my life single, and I've always romanticized the idea of finding a person who is truly your partner. I think that's made me especially curious about other people's relationships. I love getting to know what makes two people work, what they love about each other, and what makes their connection unique. There's a little bit of, "I wish I had what you have," in that—but mostly, it's genuine admiration. I get to step into your story for a little while, learn what makes your relationship special, and help you see it from the outside using my expert skills as a photographer.

Maybe that's why I care so much about creating photographs-- I want the ones that make you fall in love with each other all over again. Not because I want to manufacture some perfect version of love, but because I want to remind you of the very real one you already have.
